Methyl Acetate and uses
Methyl Acetate (MEAC) is a colorless transparent, flammable, volatile liquid with sweet ester odour. It is soluble in alcohols, ketones, glycols, esters but is slightly soluble in water, it becomes more soluble in water with high temperatures. The major use of methyl acetate is as a solvents in quick-drying paints such as lacquer. It is also used as a low toxic solvent in the manufacture of cellulose adhesives, perfumes and as an relational solvent in the manufacture of dye production. It is also used in the manufacture of nail polish remover, motor vehicle coating, furrniture coatings, industrial coatings, detergent and cosmetics. In medicine, MEAC is used as a stimulant, anticonvulsant and as a solvent for pharmaceuticals, antibiotics and hormones.
